Head Coach - Todd Sander

Todd Sander was named the 11th Mustang Boys Coach since 1960 on July 7, 2008. He is a 1999 graduate of Northville High School where he lettered in basketball. Upon graduation, he became immediately involved in the Boys Basketball Program: J.V. Assistant (1999-2002), J.V. Head Coach (2002-2008) and Varsity Assistant (2006-2008). He also worked in the Girls Basketball Program for four seasons (2003-2006) prior to the court-mandated season change.

Coach Sander led the Mustangs to an 11-10 record in 2010-2011, and they qualified for the Conference Tournament. Northville won its inaugural Holiday Tournament, its second straight Holiday Tournament Championship, by defeating Dearborn Fordson and Milford. With seven seniors returning (and eight total returning players) in 2011-2012, the Mustangs look to challenge for the Central Division Title. In addition, Todd is the recipient of multiple awards given by the Northville Athletic Department: 2007-2008 Boys Assistant Coach of the Year, and 2008-2009 Mustang Community Service Award.

Todd Sander is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He earned his degree in Business Administration with a Finance Concentration and currently works as a Registered Representative for Baldwin Capital Management, Inc. in Northville.

Varsity Assistant – Darrel Schumacher

Coach Schumacher was given a 35 Years of Service Award by the Northville High School Athletic Department in 2008. Though he has coached multiple sports at multiple levels since coming to Northville in 1973, he is most known in the football and basketball programs.

Coach Schumacher served as an assistant football coach from 1973-1985 and returned to that capacity again in 2008. He was the Head Football Coach from 1986-2001 and the Head Basketball Coach from 2001-2008.

Coach Schumacher’s football and basketball teams achieved tremendous success during his tenure. The 1990 football team won the Regional Championship before losing in the state semi-finals to eventual state champion Birmingham Brother Rice. The 2000 football team advanced to the quarter-final game before losing to eventual state runner-up Hudsonville. The Mustang Basketball team won four Division titles (2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007) and one Conference championship (2006) in his seven years as basketball coach.

Over the course of his coaching career, Coach Schumacher has received numerous post-season accolades. He is a recipient of “Coach of the Year” awards from both the Michigan Football Coaches Association and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. In addition, he is only a handful of coaches to have received Detroit Free Press “Coach of the Year” recognition for both football and basketball.

Darrel Schumacher teaches in the Math Department at Northville High School. He and his wife, Janet, have three children and three grandchildren.

Varsity Assistant – Sean Turner

Sean Turner joined the Mustang Basketball Program in 2006 after serving in the Dearborn High School Basketball staff since 2003. At Dearborn, he was the J.V. Assistant Coach for teams that finished 19-1 and 18-2.

Coach Turner is a 2000 graduate of Dearborn High School where he lettered in cross-country and basketball. During his senior season, he finished 2nd in the state in free-throw shooting and 8th in the state in three-point shooting. He played basketball for one season at Madonna University where he earned his teaching degree.

Sean Turner teaches in the Social Studies Department at Meads Mill Middle School.

Junior Varsity Head Coach – Bret Turner

Bret Turner moved up to the JV team in 2010-2011. He did a nice job developing the JV players looking to move up to the Varsity level. He has served in multiple capacities since joining the staff in 2006: Director of Scouting (2006-2008) and Freshman Assistant (2008-2010).

Coach Turner is a 2005 graduate of Dearborn High School where he lettered in football and basketball. During his senior season, Bret served as Captain of the football team that advanced to the state semi-finals.

Bret is currently pursuing his education degree at Henry ford Community College.

Freshman Head Coach - Shaun Dicken

The Mustangs added Shaun Dicken to their staff beginning with the 2010-2011 season. The Freshmen 'Stangs improved greatly throughout the course of the season, and experienced tremendous success under his guidance.

Coach Dicken is a 2003 graduate of Novi High School where he lettered in basketball and lacrosse. Highlights of his high school athletic career include earning first team all conference in basketball and an all state honorable mention in lacrosse. He earned his teaching degree from Saginaw Valley State University.

Shaun Dicken is a special education teacher at Northville High School.
